In late 2019 and early 2020, after months of severe drought in many rural areas, followed by record-breaking temperatures early in the season, Australia suffered devastating bushfires. The fires were reported to have destroyed an estimated 46 million acres, 2,779 homes, one billion animals and 34 people died.
In response to the bushfires and the ensuing crisis, US parent company PACCAR Inc. and the PACCAR Australia Dealer Network donated $100,000 to the Australian Red Cross.
Further to the donations and in response to the overwhelming feeling of wanting to help those directly affected, a group of employees with the support of HR provided assistance through BlazeAid. BlazeAid works with families and individuals from rural Australia affected by natural disasters. The PACCAR Australia team spent two days to rebuild fences across ten farming properties in eastern Victoria.
In that time the group rebuilt 15 kilometres of fencing. While only a small proportion of the overall task of rebuilding, the group’s aim was also to show their support and give hope to communities who have the unfortunate and seemingly endless task of rebuilding ahead of them.
