The new Kenworth T410 received a prestigious Good Design Award in the Product Design category in recognition for its outstanding design and innovation.

The winners of Australia’s peak industry design awards – the highest honour for design and innovation in the country – were announced at The Star on 11 July at the 61st annual Good Design Awards Ceremony.

The Good Design Awards Jury spent several days evaluating each entry according to a strict set of design criteria which covers ‘good design’, ‘design innovation’ and ‘design impact’. Projects recognised with a Good Design Award must demonstrate excellence in all areas.

The Good Design Awards Jury praised Kenworth’s T410 commenting: “Drivers will love the refined cabin that brings a new level of comfort. Additionally, the engine/transmission combination promises improved fuel economy, which can be considered a huge plus in this segment. Further, advances in tech and interior fit-out with the use of different textiles and touch surfaces and considering advanced ergonomics all with the driver at the forefront of design combine for a superior finish.”

Andrew Hadjikakou, Managing Director PACCAR Australia said: “The honour of this award is in the acknowledgement of the engineering and design work Kenworth has done locally to develop a product that suits Australian operating conditions.

“This award recognises our engineers, whose skills and passion for Kenworth is the reason our customers receive the best we can produce. It’s their commitment to the product, to quality and to continuous improvement that drives what they do. The outcome is a great product we proudly design and manufacture here in Australia,” said Andrew.

Launched at the recent Brisbane Truck Show, the T410 is a versatile aerodynamic solution that is powered by the PACCAR MX-13 engine and is offered with the option of the PACCAR transmission, giving it improved fuel economy and performance. The T410 is designed to excel in vocational, intrastate and interstate distribution as a rigid, single or multi trailer configuration.

The Good Design Awards attracted a record number of submissions with close to 700 design projects evaluated in this year’s international design awards.

Dr Brandon Gien, CEO of Good Design Australia said: “Receiving a Good Design Award at this level is a significant achievement given the very high calibre of entries received this year.”

“Australia’s Good Design Award is more than a symbol of design excellence, it represents the hard work and dedication towards an innovative outcome that will ultimately improve our quality of life. These projects showcase the brilliance of design and the potential it has to improve our world,” said Dr Gien.

The annual Good Design Awards dates back to 1958. The Awards celebrate the best new products and services on the Australian market, excellence in architectural design, engineering, fashion, digital and communication design and reward emerging areas of design strategy, social impact and design entrepreneurship.
