ONE HUNDRED KILOMETRES IN A STUDENT-DESIGNED BILLY CART

On Sunday 8 September, PACCAR Australia and Heathmont Secondary College are teaming up for the Rotary Club of Maroondah’s Billy Cart Marathon. The six-hour relay race will take place at METEC in Bayswater North, just around the corner from our Kenworth and DAF factory. The teams, made up of twenty students from different schools around Melbourne, will push each other around the track in their custom designed and built billy carts in a race to complete more than one hundred kilometres around the track.

We are excited to be teamed with two teams of twenty students each who are enthusiastically taking on this challenge as part of their school’s STEM program. STEM at Heathmont Secondary College is a science, technology, engineering and mathematics based subject that students can elect to take. The billy cart marathon is a way for students to have a hand on approach to scientific subjects.

Here at PACCAR Australia, we have some of the best engineers in the country working to design and manufacture our award-winning Kenworth and DAF trucks. We gathered a few of our enthusiastic engineers to work together with Heathmont Secondary College to inspire their students to design the best billy carts able to endure the long hours spent on the track. A few weeks ago we headed over to the school to show off our T610SAR and DAF CF85, two of our locally manufactured trucks, for the students to sit in, admire and even honk the horn.

Over the next couple of months, we are looking forward to working with Heathmont and witnessing the designs the students come up with, and hopefully inspiring some of our next generation’s engineers along the way.
