This month we talk with Dealer Principal Tony Hurley of Brown and Hurley Kenworth DAF Darra – November’s PACCAR Dealer of the Month.
Brown and Hurley Kenworth DAF Darra opened in 1979, currently employ around 75 people, and have had many extensions as the branch has grown.
Tony is proud to say they have won numerous Kenworth and DAF dealer of the year awards.
Tony explains a unique fact about Brown and Hurley Kenworth DAF Darra is that it “was built after the 1974 floods where our old building was flooded. The only insurance we got was one sheet of roofing iron that was hit by a boat propeller.”
One-on-one with Tony:
What’s your favourite local spot?
The Windaroo Golf Club is always a good spot for a round of golf and a cold beer.
What’s your favourite truck model?
T610 the new trucks have been fantastic, but still have a soft spot for the T659.
How did you get started in this business?
Part of the family, I suppose grew up in it.
If you weren’t working in this industry what would you be doing?
Working on a fishing boat somewhere!
Who is your role model and why?
Would say my father Jim Hurley, after Rob Brown and him took over running the company, they have grown and expanded the business to the nine locations we have today.
Is there a customer experience you are most proud of?
I have dealt with a lot of different people at the four Brown and Hurley dealerships I have worked at. Always the most rewarding part of the job is the great people you meet and the lifelong friendships you make.
What are your thoughts on the future of the industry?
I believe the industry is in a strong position and will grow in the coming years. I also see rail playing a bigger part as we see more of the private companies come into this sector with increased efficiencies.
Thanks for your time Tony!
