A unique fact about Brown and Hurley Kenworth DAF Caboolture is that “prior to the opening of this Dealership in late 2015, the north side of Brisbane did not have a large modern well-equipped truck dealership to service the transport industry.”
A quick interview
What’s your favourite local spot?
The Sunshine Coast is on our doorstep, many of our customers are based in this area. It boasts a beautiful coastline, many natural attractions combined with a great lifestyle, restaurants, fishing, and boating in a pristine environment.
What’s your favourite truck model?
I like them all, particularly when they are sold! But if I have a preference it’s probably a well-specced T909.
How did you get started in this business?
I left high school and started as a trainee Parts Interpreter in a truck dealership. I moved into Sales a few years later, now 42 years later I’m still at it!
If you weren’t working in this industry what would you be doing?
I like to think I would be a Qantas Pilot, soon to retire and planning how to spend all my money.
Who is your role model and why?
My father who achieved a great deal in his lifetime, coming from very humble beginnings he rose to prominence in his chosen career. He also stayed very true to himself and his values until the day he passed.
Tell me about a project or accomplishment that you consider to be the most significant in your career.
There are two. The first was the merging of six large dealerships acquired from different ownerships into one single business unit, and succeeded in forming this into a profitable and efficient operating unit with common systems.
The other was project management of designing, then building a large truck dealership from feasibility through to construction, and commissioning into a working dealership.
Is there a customer experience you are most proud of?
I would like to think we value and treat all our customers with respect and provide the best possible service we can. Occasionally when a customer takes the time to contact me and thank us for a job well done, I am always extremely proud.
What are your thoughts on the future of the industry?
I am sure the industry has a secure future; Australia needs trucks and will become more dependant as the freight task grows. As a supplier to the industry if we continue to provide quality trucks and a high level of service, our future is secure.
