The PACCAR Australia network is the strongest in the country, staffed by professionals who are passionate about the trucking industry. Each month we’ll be highlighting our Dealer of the Month and shining the spotlight on the people who make up this great network.
Introducing Paul Hurley, Dealer Principal of Brown and Hurley Kenworth DAF Yatala, which was named DAF Dealer of the Year for 2015.
Paul, tell us about your Dealership.
The Yatala dealership is located off exit 41 on the M1 motorway. Strategically located halfway between the Gold Coast and Brisbane, the dealership is located on 16,000 sqm and features 26 workshop bays, a large parts store and a full range of new trucks. We service the region from Brisbane airport to Gold Coast airport and out to Beaudesert.
What have been Brown and Hurley Kenworth DAF Yatala’s highlights? Being a part of the development from the initial Greenfield concept to full operations, and the growth the dealership has been able to achieve despite the generally challenging economic conditions experienced since we opened in 2008.
What is something unique about your dealership?
Yatala dealership has the responsibility for the smallest amount of land in the world’s sixth largest country.
Where is your favourite local spot?
Hope Island Golf Course; it’s a great place for a game if you’re ever on the Gold Coast let me know!
What is your favourite truck model?
Have to say the K200. Knowing it’s Australian-designed and made and the efficiency it operates as a B-double combination in transporting freight around our great nation. It is a credit to all those involved in the Kenworth operations.
If you weren’t working in this industry what would you be doing?
Tough question as I always wanted to join the family business. However I think I would have enjoyed doing something in economics if I went down a different career path.
What are your thoughts on the future of the industry:
Future looks bright. I believe we have great opportunity as our country continues to develop and the freight task continues to increase, we as truck dealers have opportunities to grow our business while being part of an expanding industry. Additionally the current PACCAR products have never been better, while greater demand for higher performance vehicles puts us at the forefront to take advantage of this demand. I believe the day will come when we will say we lived in a golden time for the country.
